The team
The Art of Living is working toward something unfashionably large: a happier, safer world, built on real human values. Most people meet that mission through its programs and volunteers. Increasingly, they meet it through software — and the technology team is the group that builds it, creating products that help the Foundation reach millions of users across the globe.
We're a small, product-focused team with a grand vision, which makes design one of our highest-leverage crafts: for most of the people we reach, the interface is the product. We value collaboration, continuous learning, and real-world impact, and we look for people who are genuinely excited to take on challenging problems in a supportive environment.
The role
We're looking for a Product Designer who can own experiences end-to-end — from research and flows to high-fidelity UI — for applications used by millions. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with product managers and engineers, turning fuzzy problems into interfaces that feel obvious in hindsight.
What you'll do
The work starts before the first pixel. You'll partner with product managers on discovery — sitting in on user conversations, running usability tests, and studying behavior — so that what you design is grounded in how people actually use our products, across a user base that spans languages, cultures, and levels of digital comfort.
From there you'll own the full arc of design: mapping user journeys and information architecture, sketching flows, wireframing, and carrying the strongest ideas through to high-fidelity, developer-ready UI. You'll prototype when a conversation needs something clickable, and you'll iterate in the open — sharing work early and defending decisions with reasoning rather than taste alone.
You'll build and maintain the design system that keeps our products coherent as they grow: components, patterns, and guidelines that make the right thing the easy thing. Delivery is a daily partnership with engineering — you'll spec interactions precisely, review implementations against the design, and make pragmatic calls when reality pushes back. Accessibility is part of the craft here, not an afterthought: readable contrast, keyboard operability, and interfaces that work for users at every level of ability.
And because shipped is the beginning rather than the end, you'll watch how your designs perform in the real world — funnels, usability sessions, support tickets — and feed what you learn into the next iteration.
What you bring
You have four to seven years in product design, UI/UX, or interaction design, ideally on consumer-facing or high-scale products, and a portfolio that shows the journey — not just polished screens, but the problem, the process, and what shipped.
You're fluent in modern design tools — Figma above all — from wireframes through component libraries and interactive prototypes. Your fundamentals in typography, layout, color, and interaction design are strong, and you can articulate why a design works, to designers and non-designers alike. You're research-literate: you can plan and run a usability test, and you know the difference between what users say and what they do.
You collaborate credibly with engineers — you understand how responsive web and mobile interfaces are actually built, what's cheap versus expensive to implement, and how to spec a design so it survives contact with real data and edge cases.
Bonus points
Extra credit for motion design and micro-interaction craft, working front-end literacy (HTML, CSS, or a framework like React), experience building or scaling a design system, hands-on familiarity with accessibility standards, and a background in mission-driven, nonprofit, or wellness and education products.
What we offer
Hybrid working, a supportive and mission-driven environment, and the chance to shape how millions of people experience products that do real good in the world.
What we're searching for
Titles aside, here's the shape of the person we're looking for. You sweat the details without losing the plot — you care whether the flow makes sense before you care whether the corners are rounded. You seek out real users and let what you learn overrule your assumptions. You partner with engineers and speak their language, designing things that can actually be built. And you can walk anyone through a design decision and make the reasoning feel inevitable.
Apply for this role
Share your portfolio or a single case study you're proud of — the problem, your process, and what shipped. A Figma file, a live product, or a written walkthrough all work. Remember to drop a link.
